The Road To Summer
I’m not so hot at taking nature pix, but this time of year, our neighborhood is, with apologies to Maverick in Top Gun, a “target-rich environment.” If I point the camera in enough directions, hit the shutter enough times, and crop it enough different ways, a few decent photos are statistically inevitable. While hardly a classic pastoral scene, this photo of the driveway I took while searching for our newspaper is nonetheless redolent of summer.
And, on the way back to the house, I snapped these blossoms in the field next to that same driveway.
This time of the year, the cost of a newspaper subscription is fully compensated by the justification it provides for walking the length of the driveway to pick up that day’s edition.
Prom 2006: The New Black Is White
Trees, shrubs, and flowers are not the only signals that Summer is nigh. This past weekend the Mesomorph attended his first prom attired thusly. (One of the blessings of 2006 for which I am grateful is that my younger son was dissuaded from his first preference for a baby blue tux.) Pretty spiffy, eh?

The grounds look so lovely…..I remember when it was all bare trees and few flowers.
The grief and pain suffered by both the landscapers and the occupants has been well rewarded.
