Oh my.
You may recall that the tipping point that clinched my purchase of and subsequent infatuation with Anjani’s Blue Alert was the line from the Amazon review that described the album as a collection of gentle music tinged with styles ranging from Holly Cole to Tanita Tikaram. Given that I have been and continue to be hot for Holly & Tanita, buying this CD was a no-brainer (my specialty). I am now, of course, mad for Blue Alert and Anjani.
So?
So, now it’s getting complicated. On the same list of contemporary female singers of a certain genre after whom I lust is one Madeleine Peyroux.
Yes, Yes, and So?
So, Madeleine also has an album, Half the Perfect World , which is scheduled to be released in the US on Sept. 12, 2006
How Nice. Do You Have A Point?
I sure do. Check out the third track (which I’ve placed in bold just to help you out) on the album’s playlist.
I’m All Right
The Summer Wind
Blue Alert
Everybody’s Talking
River (with k.d. lang)
All I Need Is A Little Bit
Once In A While
(Looking For) The Heart Of Saturday Night
Half The Perfect World
La Javanaise
California Rain
Smile
Yes, indeed, I am in anticipation of a forthcoming cover of Blue Alert by a singer already on my pre-approved, buy-without-listening-first list.1
The Half The Perfect World web site includes this explication:
Sung by a woman from a man’s point of view, “Blue Alert” (written by Leonard Cohen and Anjani Thomas) is psychologically complex and erotically charged. This intertwining of genders “adds a depth to the song that wouldn’t be there otherwise,” Madeleine says.
An Aside To Madeleine:
Madeleine, Madeleine, Madeleine,
My advice is to leave the psuedopsychobabble to otherwise worthless bloggers like me. If I could sing like you, I certainly wouldn’t waste my time writing about songs that are “psychologically complex” and “erotically charged;” I’d be singing those songs.
And, come to think of it, if I were as good looking as you, I wouldn’t be writing about “intertwining of the genders;” I’d be too busy intertwining. Just a thought.

Further complicating things – in an altogether delightful way – the playlist also includes a duet with k.d. lang (yep, I like her too – and, yes, I know) as well as a rendition of (Looking For) The Heart Of Saturday Night, which Holly Cole has also covered.
What’s A (Heck Of A) Guy To Do?
While Anjani is clearly #1 in this fantasy hit parade of mine, I am admittedly bedazzled by the potential combinations and permutations.2 Of course, there is always the downside that, even in my fantasy world, my eyes may be bigger than my I may be biting off more than I can my reach may exceed my I would need to pace myself. It’s a risk, in any case, that I’ll just have to take.
And speaking of Anjani, check out her comment on A Muse Amused?, which I’ll address in a post later today or tomorrow.
Update: It’s Pandoracious!
