It Is Tuesday and Shane Is In Belgium So Today Is Fun-Video Day

After experiencing a minor hassle on my other blog,1 I emailed Shane, my web whiz to whom I alluded in The Move: Status Check, only to receive this reply from him this morning,
“I am currently in Belgium.”

Of course, the movie, If This Is Tuesday It Must Be Belgium, immediately came to mind.

The confluence of this 1969 movie and Shane’s itinerary explains a lot with respect to Shane’s capacities and skills: he’s obviously a character in a movie with all the perquisites pertaining thereto.2

What other possible explanation can there be?

Don’t believe it? Well, how about this – one of the stars of If This Is Tuesday It Must Be Belgium is Ian McSHANE, who also played the lead in the Lovejoy TV series and Al Swearengen in the HBO series Deadwood . And, while I’ve never met Shane, I’m certain he looks exactly like this photo of McShane.

In celebration of this epiphany, I’ve designated today a Heck Of A Guy Fun-Video Day. None of these animations require deep thought or, indeed, much thought at all. Nothing on this list will evoke memories of that cartoon you saw in the third grade about cute blood cells that toddle about hefting their cargo of oxygen until succumbing to the enticement of spontaneous mutation, at which point they transform into defective cells that result in leukemia and death. The only benefit of this horror show was that it made Our Friend The Badger look good.

Amuse yourselves.

Dress Code: This video was produced to illustrate the need for school dress codes as a safety measure. Almost anyone, however, will be impressed with the arsenal the actor playing the student withdraws from his baggy pants in less than a minute.

Consent: A clever film that takes the legalistic mechanisms that pervade our lives into the bedroom – literally.

The Hazzards: Formerly the ukes of hazzard, The Hazzards still strum their ukuleles and, occasionally, hammer their glockenspiels, but are now backed by a five-piece band, including harp. They are sweet, saucy, and sexy singers, who appear absolutely innocent but are definitely up to something. They have two videos for your viewing pleasure: Gay Boyfriend and Shut Up & Make Out

The Shining Redux: Behold the power of editing that transforms the trailer for The Shining into a lovable, moralistic family movie.

Footnotes

  1. Keep it to yourselves, but Heck Of A Guy is my favorite blog and Heck Of A Guy readers are much more attractive than AlignMap readers. Don’t tell them; I don’t want to hurt their feelings. ~back~
  2. For example, movie characters never have to go to the bathroom except to escape, have a conversation with a member of the opposite sex who is trying to avoid them, have sex, kill someone, or take drugs. Female librarians in movies may initially resemble King Kong in drag but by the simple expedient of unclasping their hair, become startlingly gorgeous. Most significantly, movie characters operate under a less restrictive set of physics that, for instance, allow Mac 10 users to blaze away for indeterminate periods while those of us in the non-flick universe are, according to the Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics web site, stuck with Mac 10s that empty their thirty-round magazines in 1.8 seconds of sustained fire. That means “If our shooter blazes away steadily for a total of only 3 minutes, his or her Mac 10 will spit out around 3000 chunks of lead at roughly 15 grams a piece. This amounts to 45 kilograms or a little less than 100 pounds of lead. And that doesn’t account for the weight of the 3000 cartridge cases or 100 empty magazines scattered on the ground.” ~back~
