Lights, Camera, Inaction

Readers may have noted that over the past week, the Heck Of A Guy blog has gone Hollywood. Enabled by both the easy availability of videos wrought by Youtube, Google Video, et al and the ultra-nifty Viper’s Video Quicktags Wordpress plug-in1 your very own DrHGuy has gleefully embedded video players in posts with an enthusiasm and zeal congruent with this blog’s endorsement of Oscar Wilde’s admonition, Nothing succeeds like excess

As a result, a couple of posts became video playgrounds, hosting a plethora of embedded video players.

This glam-geek touch has also, however, resulted in some broswers loading the site slowly and, it appears, some folks being prevented, for practical purposes, from accessing the blog altogether.

Heck, the Heck Of A Guy blog ain’t a latter day, online version of Studio 54 with capriciously elitist guest selection criteria. Our guest selection standards are, in fact, precisely elitist: if you get the joke (generically) and behave decently,2 you’re welcome, and we’ll do whatever we can to make your stay here comfortable, enjoyable, and convenient.

Consequently, the embedded video players will forthwith and, for the time being, forevermore reside on separate web pages that won’t automatically load in the browser when accessing http://1heckofaguy.com. The blog pages themselves will contain links to both the 1heckofaguy.com pages containing the embedded players and the site from which the video originated. This change is effective immediately and has been made retrospectively for two posts, It’s Tuesday & Shane Is In Belgium So It’s Fun-Video Day and Turn, Turn, Turn, Turnaround.

This will, one hopes, fix the problems. If not, well, Shane3 can’t hide in Belgium forever.

By The Way, It’s Not That Helen

The “Helen” referenced in the Bart Simpson graphic is a randomly selected name designating the Universal Blog-reader and otherwise has nothing whatsoever to do with “Helen” of Blogger on the Cast Iron Balcony. It is, in fact, the purest of coincidences that these structural changes were instituted immediately after she had difficulty accessing the site upon her return from a one week absence occasioned by Australia’s national state of mourning for the Croc Man and that racing driver. In any case, it would certainly be unjust and unwarranted to blame that Helen for this delay in getting on with the second part of yesterday’s “To Be Continued” post containing the resolution to the mystery of the spooksound.

{Pssst. Helen, let me know if this takes care of the problem. Don’t worry – I’ve enclosed this note in the special Braces Of Invisibility so no one else will be able to read it.}

Footnotes

  1. Did anyone out there think I could resist using something called Viper’s Video Quicktags? I didn’t think so. And, it really is ultra-nifty
  2. The current minimum behavioral criterion is superficial respectability at Eddie Haskell-level or better.
  3. See It’s Tuesday & Shane Is In Belgium So It’s Fun-Video Day

    It’s fixed, HOAG!
    Weird, because my browser doesn’t mind lots of video encrusted sites– Twisty, Larvatus Prodeo, etcetera…
    Chalk it up (ha, ha) to just one of those things. I do hope other people had this problem so you didn’t have to rejig your site just on my behalf. Thanks muchly!
