Same Tracks and Licensing Hassles Available In U.S. and Canada

Download Sites For Canadians
In yesterday’s post, Buying Only Those 5 Newly Released Leonard Cohen Songs, I listed Wal-Mart Music Downloads as the only location I had found selling downloads of the five previously unreleased tracks distributed among the three Leonard Cohen albums released 24 April 2007.
The following three sites also offer these downloads For Canadian Resident Only:
The cost is $1.19 (Canadian, of course) per track. The technical issues and restrictions are similar to those I described yesterday for Wal-Mart Music Downloads, which only sells to U.S. citizens: the songs are in WMA format, require licenses, may only operate correctly with Windows Media Player, etc., but there are some variations (for example, the number of times a song can be burned to a CD, whether Internet Explorer is required for downloads or Firefox can be used, … ), so read the fine print.
The same type of licensing limitations and hassles leads me to recommend the same workaround detailed in Buying Only Those 5 Newly Released Leonard Cohen Songs: downloading the tracks desired, burning them to a CD, and then ripping them from the CD as unrestricted MP3 files.
Alternative Download Site For U.S. Residents
PureTracks also has an American site for U.S. residents that offers single track downloads from the reissued Leonard Cohen albums at PureTracks - U.S. Site on similar terms to those already described. The price is 99 cents per track (Wal-Mart.com’s download price is 88 cents per track).
Bonus: Listen to Storeroom
One of the previously unavailable tracks, Storeroom, on the reissued Songs of Leonard Cohen, is available as streaming audio at ~Storeroom - Leonard Cohen~
