The Maroon Bells With Aspens Awash In Ferns

Lord of Leisure writes:

This photo provides a different perspective on aspens than the preceding shots in this series.2 The subtle light filtering into this aspen grove and the warm color of the ferns on the forest floor creates a contrast that comforts rather than confronts. Taken near Marble, Colorado in late September, this one of my favorite aspen pictures.

Readers may also be interested to know that this area is the source of the stone for the Tomb of the Unknowns in Washington DC. The local miners at Marble, Colorado have offered to replace the original stone which has begun to crack without cost. The replacement pieces, in fact, have been quarried (I saw it), but Washington won’t accept it without competitive bids.
