Those stalwarts who carefully monitor the segments embedded in the right sidebar of the Heck Of A Guy blog know this already, but DrHGuy, in an altogether atypical fit of compassion for those viewers less dedicated to the peripheral geography of these web pages, issues this alert:

Today, 1 November 2008, from 7-8 PM London time,¹ BBC Radio 2 will broadcast “The Fourth, The Fifth, The Minor Fall,” a documentary on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”

The Allison Crowe post does point out that the BBC documentary and the official release date of the MOJO issue celebrating Leonard Cohen both occur on All Saints Day yet inexplicably fails to mention DrHGuy’s natal day celebration, which also takes place on November 1st. [↩]

Aye, it’s your birthday, and I did consider including such fact in my posting, but, it’s also the birthday of Allison Crowe’s Father, Del, and, if I noted your celebration, then, I’d be remiss to not mention Del’s… and, then you can see, it becomes an wholly different sort of thing. With candles and all.

"Do I Have To Dance All Night" was performed many times in concerts but was never released in the US.

As part of my crusade to popularize this song, I've cobbled together 2 videos - one for the semi-funky 1976 version with Laura Branigan and one for the 1980 more gypsy, less disco version - that kinda sorta fit the music.

Both videos include links to keys to the sources of the clips and the identities of the backup singers and others who are featured.

Leonard Cohen & Joni Mitchell? Yes, They Were

Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen had a fling in the 1960s that, for unspecified reasons, was short-lived, with Cohen instigating the parting.

It was then and is now a complex connection. In 1988, Cohen said, I'm still very friendly with Joni - I had dinner with her before the tour, and I have the same admiration for her as you do. But I think it was Noel Harrison who came up to me in the LA Troubadour and said "How do you like living with Beethoven?"
