Memorial Day 2009 – If It Be Your Will

Offering By Leonard Cohen & Webb Sisters Fits Holiday

“If It Be Your Will,” described by Leonard Cohen as “more of a prayer” than a song, was written, he goes on to relate, when “faced with some difficulties of [his] own.” That introduction and Cohen’s unadorned recitation of the first lines combine with Neil Larsen and Charlie and Hattie Webb “unfold[ing]” an especially poignant arrangement of the song to strike a tone and invoke a perspective that are  distinctively appropriate for Memorial Day 2009.

This startlingly clear, close-up video of “If It Be Your Will”  is from the May 19, 2009 Hamilton Concert. (There is some camera movement in the initial portion of the video, but this diminishes after the first minute or so.)
