Newspapers Identifying Lorca As Surrogate In Error

I have been informed by a reliable source that Lorca Cohen is the mother,  not the surrogate  of Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen.

The following official correction will appear soon on the web site of Rufus Wainwright:

In many of the articles announcing the birth of Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen, Lorca Cohen is characterized as “the surrogate.” Of course, she is no such thing. She did not carry the child for someone else. Lorca Cohen is the mother of the baby and Rufus Wainwright is the father.

In addition, I am told

The child will live with Lorca, and be brought up by her. Rufus and Lorca are good friends of long standing, and he will have ample opportunity to enjoy his daughter’s company.

Unfortunately, Heck Of A Guy was one of the sites that passed along the misinformation generated by an unknown reporter somewhere who characterized Lorca as a surrogate.1   I extend my apologies for this error to Lorca Cohen, her daughter, Rufus Wainwright, Jorn Weisbrodt, and their families.  I am also appreciative that Lorca’s father, Leonard Cohen, wrote to correct this mistake.
