2003 – The Chocolodka Story Begins
The story begins in early 2003 when, in the throes of a crush on an anglophilic lass, DrHGuy found himself perusing web sites retailing Brit food brands, condiments, and other delicacies for exportation to the American colonies. On one of the customer forums, he serendipitously discovered the original recipe for the potion he would christen Chocolodka. DrHGuy sincerely regrets that he did not carefully preserve the name of the Englishwoman who submitted the chocolate vodka formula to that no longer existent forum.
While the romance that led to the the Chocolodka revelation dissipated, the recipe proved both successful and enduring. The chocolate vodka concoction and its recipe became popular among acquaintances so DrHGuy began blogging in 2006, a post proclaiming the glories of and instructions for Chocolodka was a natural; The Quintessential Chocolate Vodka – Chocolodka was published April 18, 2006.
And the name, Chocolodka? It was a neologism DrHGuy created sometime before publishing that 2006 post. The original recipe called the drink “chocolate vodka,” an admirably descriptive appellation but one that felt rather too much a part of the quotidian vernacular for DrHGuy, who devised the more esoteric – and more fun to pronounce – Chocolodka.
Since DrHGuy began enlightening others about this delicious, do it yourself drink among friends in 2003 and on the net in 2006, there has been, year by year, an increased number of web sites joining in the promotion of the magical elixir in its original version or recognizable iterations, many of which used the name “Chocolodka” and some of which used exactly the same recipe and instructions. Appallingly, most of these sites fail to mention, let alone credit Heck Of A Guy for its pioneering efforts.
Now, the sharing the gift of Chocolodka with the world is viewed here at Heck Of A Guy as a service to humanity and a moral responsibility so DrHGuy welcomes others to the task of spreading the Chocolodka gospel. Still, a little credit would be nice. And, DrHGuy’s world view being what it is, patiently waiting for others to spontaneously see the error of their ways and self-correct their omitted accolades is not the top-rated option; instead, he has launched a new Heck Of A Guy Chocolodka campaign that opens today on two fronts:
1. The Heck Of A Guy Chocolodka Foundation
Today marks the inauguration of the Chocolodka Foundation, an organization dedicated to furthering the cause of Chocolodka, including the refinement and extension of its formulation. Toward that end, the Chocolodka Foundation has enlisted the services of the Chocolodka Goddesses, Coco Éclair and Duchess of Durham, to test variations of the original recipe and develop recipes for other dishes and potables that incorporate Chocolodka. Links to reports of their recipes and exploits as well as information about Chocolodka and Chocolodka-infused news from around the world can always be found at the Heck Of A Guy Chocolodka Page.
The first two results of the Chocolodka Culinary Laboratory, Chocolodka Espresso Bundt Cake (pictured above) and Chocolodka Frappé, are now available at Recipes Employing Chocolodka.
2. The “How To Make The Original Chocolodka” Video
Today is also the premiere of the first Heck Of A Guy Chocolodka video. Shot on location at the Industrial Chocolodka Centre On Hilton Head Island, the video stars a cast of, if not thousands then at least all of DrHGuy’s fellow vacationers who could be coerced into this project.

now all I need is a dishwasher!
from a gintonic fan.. waiting ansiouxly for the making off…..
On my way to liquor store for that 750 ml bottle!
The chick in the black outfit is very cute!
Good choice of background music too.
This is a classic! Though I wonder if the mispronounciation of Caramel (its Kar – Aaaa- Mel not Karmel) helped dissolve the relationship with the Anglophile!
Hmm. That is one of the few possible causes of the dissolution we didn’t consider. Now, at least I’m prepared for the next Britophile. Thanks
