Release Date Update: 13 January 2012
Since the known release dates for Leonard Cohen’s Old Ideas album in various countries was published only two days ago four release dates have been added:
- Australia: February 3, 2012 (Thank you, AlanM5049)
- Poland: January 27, 2012 ( Thank you, Tom Sakic)
- Norway: January 27, 2012 (Thank you, Henry Tengelsen)
- South Africa: January 30, 2012 (Media Update)

Old Ideas Will Be Released Jan 27 – & Jan 30 & Jan 31 & …
While the official release date for Leonard Cohen’s Old Ideas is January 31, 2012 in the US and Canada, Europe traditionally releases albums and video games on Fridays (albums and games in the US are typically released on Tuesdays).1
And, indeed, a review of the various national Sony (Cohen’s record label) and retail web sites as well as LeonardCohenForum indicates the Old Ideas official release date for Germany and Ireland is January 27, 2012. Other European countries may have release dates of February 3, 2012 (the next Friday on the calendar). On the other hand, the French Amazon site lists the release date as January 30, 2012.
In the UK, the release date is January 30, 2012.
Of course, given that the internet is only occasionally a respecter of borders and that everyone (well, at least everyone in Chicago) knows someone who knows someone who can obtain downloads and CDs before the release dates, the Official Release Date is, at best, an approximation of reality.
