Dueling Downloads: Leonard Cohen 1968 BBC Broadcasts

The posting of four Leonard Cohen songs from the July 9, 1968 BBC Top Gear program hosted by John Peel at Nights At The Roundtable – Leonard Cohen In Session – 1968  on the Newstalgia site prompted me to check on the availability of these same songs that were part of a Leonard Cohen bootleg posted here three years ago at Best Bootlegs: Leonard Cohen Live At The BBC.

Happily the download site for the Leonard Cohen Live At The BBC bootleg remains functional, and the songs from the Top Gear program, along with the thirteen songs recorded Spring 1968 at the Paris Theatre, London, some of which were broadcast by the BBC2 TV on August 31, 1968 and some of which were broadcast September 7, 1968 as well as Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye, a duet with Julie Felix recorded and broadcast on BBC2 TV’s Once More With Felix on January 27, 1968 can still be downloaded from there as single MP3s (the songs at the Newstalgia site are downloaded as a single MP3).

Note: The recording at at Nights At The Roundtable – Leonard Cohen In Session – 1968 includes John Peel’s comments as well as Leonard Cohen’s singing.  The Leonard Cohen Live At The BBC bootleg includes only Cohen’s songs; it does not include Peel’s comments.

One Response to 1968 Leonard Cohen BBC Broadcasts (Still) Available For Download

  1. Such a pity that this dance company has run into difficulties. It is such an interesting and touching performance, a beautiful marriage between Leonard Cohens music and meaningful dance. I loved it. I hope a solution will be reached.
