In anticipation of the release of the UK edition of I’m Your Man: The Life of Leonard Cohen by Sylvie Simmons, excerpts from the book are available in the British press.
- Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah Moment by Sylvie Simmons (The Telegraph, Oct 26, 2012): This is an impressive extract, nearly 5,000 words of text bolstered by four photos, one of which (the image atop this post) was previously unknown to me. The selection covers the period from December 1959 when Cohen, then a poet and aspiring novelist, came to London through his move to Hydra, an especially significant – and fascinating – period in Leonard Cohen’s life and art.
- Leonard Cohen excerpt: ‘Raised in a house of suits’ by Sylvie Simmons (The Globe and Mail, Oct. 26 2012): This 600 word extract from the first of the book uses Leonard Cohen’s chauffeured journey to his home after his birth at Montreal’s Victoria Hospital to describe the neighborhood and family in which Cohen would spend his childhood.

Must read that book…
